Post-election break

I needed a break after the election and was planning on just a series of light weeks with PODs, but my health and daylights savings time were against me. Currently I have some kind of undiagnosed sinus problem that is causing intense sinus pressure in my head and also in my inner ears. It has the fun side effect of being completely physically draining and I believe if I had absolutely nothing to do that I could easily sleep for 18+ hours a day. Alas I have a full plate with work and my dissertation, so what little energy I have in reserve each day is spent on other things than the blog. (In case you are wondering I have a appointment with an ear, nose, and throat specialist after Thanksgiving because my doctor has finally run out of things to try. We also figured out that I might have been suffering from whatever I have since early last spring, since what I believed was allergies all spring, summer, and fall may have been what I am still suffering from. Yeah, fun stuff.)

Where have the PODs gone? Very good question. To wit I would respond, Where has the sunlight gone? I have darkness when I get out of work, so it makes it hard to take a daily picture. Until the sunlight returns I will be posting "Random pictures of the week." Though I will probably start with "Random pictures from November" to play catch up for my down time.

In case any of you were wondering one of my pictures has been chosen as a finalist for a internet mapping company's dc map. Kind of cool. Here is the picture. I have a little extra personal love for Ben, so despite the fact that I think I have better dc pics, it is kind of flattering. I will let you know when I lose. Again behold the power of the cellphone camera!

SNL nails the VP debate

If you haven't seen it, sit right back and prepare to laugh. Queen Latifa is the prefect Gwen Ifill, except QL asked a follow up question, which Gwen did not.

Weekend funny

If you have been depressed by all the McCain/Palin lies and hurricane Ike, behold Trash Heaven. It is one of the funniest sites I have visited in a long time. Give them some love, you will be glad you did.

ATHF!

Best line: "But look, I mean, is he going to be able to chase us? Cause if I woke up lookin' like that, I would just run towards the nearest living thing and kill it."

Take Two: Still not funny

Bill and Jerry, so unfunny together. Is this trying to sell anything or is it some kind of vanity thing at this point?

The real McCain video

I caught up on my Tivo list today thanks to Hanna rocking the mid-Atlantic states, which thankfully spared me any flooding this time. Anyway, The Daily Show, who did the best coverage of the RNC that I have seen with their humor was devastating. made their own McCain introductory video. If you missed the coverage of The Best F#&king News Team Ever this week, please go to the site and watch the highlights. I might post some later, but for now this particular video cracked me up. And as an added bonus, the voice over is by Al Swearengen from Deadwood (aka Ian McShane). If you watched Deadwood, it makes this video all the sweeter, and makes you feel like you are on the inside of an extra joke. If you don't know Deadwood, you are really missing out on one of the best TV shows to ever air. It is a shame David Milch could never finish it properly.

What made me laugh today

You don't see interviews like this very often, especially on CNN. I think the villagers are getting mighty cranky with the McCain campaign. This is funny because it is so exceptionally sad to watch. (This interview is being discussed all over the inter-tubes, and in fact lead the McCain campaign this evening to pull their candidate's interview on Larry King. Got something to hide there Maverick?)

Cafferty is always good for a laugh, but he went to a new level today. The payoff is the viewers letters. More than a bit one sided, but oh so funny. That and his very last line is classic.

[NSFW] P-Diddy on McCain's nomination of Palin. This is a true classic that historians will look back on and go, Huh?

Sir Charles[Barkley] in full glory.

Someone woke up the WaPo's grumpy next door neighbor and he is PISSED.

(Note: When possible I will always try to embed from the original source. I just wish CNN would get their embeds working better. They are clumsy to work with and slow to load.)

Monday Mental Break -- Environmental Plans edition

I have been meaning to post on T. Boone Picken's plan for a while now, but got a bit lazy. With Al Gore rolling out his plan in a speech last week I thought it was about time to put up the plans side by side. I hope to do some analysis later, but as for now consider them educational videos to distract you from doing work.

First up PickensPlan. I have a sneaking feeling that this is going to be too large for the blog, so just head over to his site if it is clipped.

And Al Gore's speech. A shorter edited version can be found here.

Mental break Monday

It's a touch over ten minutes, but well worth every second. Be careful if you laugh loud, you might want to wait until you get home. Also there are a few profanities, and one NSFW moment, so if you are worried wait until you get home.

Update: Working out the technical glitch...should be working again soon.

Later Update: Seems like the old version of Firefox at the office is having problems with the YouTube clip and I am too tired today to figure it out. Here's the link if you are having a problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcQ7RkyBoBc. I need coffee...

Today's mental break

howispentmystimulus.com is an interesting group-sourcing site on what people did with their stimulus check. As you can imagine some of these will make you want to spike your coffee. Judging by the stock market yesterday, I am not sure how well these checks are stimulating the economy. How hasn't supply-side economics been completely discredited by now?
